Dobel Foodsafe

Dobel Foodsafe is a fireproof and durable material that is also easy to clean – the obvious choice when food safety requirements are stringent.

Dobel Foodsafe can be used for wall and ceiling claddings in cold stores and food preparation areas. It is also suitable as a facing material for sandwich panels in these areas.

Dobel Foodsafe consists of a 120-150 µm thick rigid PVC film laminated onto metallized steel sheet.
Dobel Foodsafe complies with the directives for Foodsafe plastic products. The product is approved for use in premises in which food is handled.

PRODUCT INFORMATION

Applications

Dobel film laminated steel sheet is used where the requirements are high regarding aesthetic and robust surfaces. Dobel Foodsafe can be used for wall and ceiling claddings in cold stores and food preparation areas. Dobel Foodsafe is also suitable as a facing material for sandwich panels in these areas.

Product description

Dobel Foodsafe consists of a 120-150 µm thick PVC film laminated onto metallized steel sheet. The base material in Dobel Foodsafe is hot-dip galvanized steel. The product can be supplied with a removable protective film. Dobel Foodsafe is available in a number of single colours. The reverse side has as standard a grey paint coating. Dobel Foodsafe is supplied as coils, cut-to length sheets or as slit strip. European standard EN 10 169-1 for organic coated sheet is applicable for this product.

Resistance to chemicals

Dobel Foodsafe has a good resistance to chemicals. However there are exceptions e.g. certain organic solvents such as aromatics, ketones and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

Cleaning of surface coating

Dobel Foodsafe should only be cleaned with mild detergents and persistent stains can normally be removed by using white spirit. After any cleaning operation the surface must be rinsed with fresh water. If alkaline detergents are used, the useful life of the product will be shortened.

Storage and handling

Care should be taken to avoid damage to the coating during manufacture and installation. Scratches and handling damage that cause the coating to be removed, should be repaired, see product sheet “Cleaning, painting and repair of film laminated steel sheet”. Storing of the material outdoors should be avoided.
However, if such storage is not avoidable, the material should be satisfactorily covered and should be stored in such a manner that will ensure good air circulation, in order to avoid the accumulation of moisture.

Environment

SSAB Laminated Steel continues to commit significant resources in order to ensure that our processes are increasingly environmentally friendly.

For further information about environmental properties of Dobel, see product sheet “Environmental specification for film laminated steel sheet”. The production of films and the lamination to the steel sheets are performed under controlled conditions.

More than 99% of the emission from our coil coating processes are recovered and
incinerated. The resultant heat is recycled to the paint curing process. Film laminated steel can be recovered at the end of its life cycle and represents an important raw material in the production of new steel by remelting. In this melting process, the emissions caused by the metal and paint coats are removed. Film laminated steel should be collected as all other steel sheet, through the normal scrap recovery channels.
